Update on the Open Initiative and Language Advisory Committee. Everything is flowing but more to come for both.
Sean Corfield/Advisory Committee:
ISO/ANSI is normally about 10 years and demanded to start looking after 5 years. That isn’t going to work on the web. Small team has yielded not as much progress as they would have liked but still moving forward. “We will get there.” The goal is 2009 for the CFML 2001 spec. Just remember its all volunteer and its a hard process to decide what is a true language feature vs. what is vendor specific. The goal is to update the spec every 2 years.
BOF tonight at 8:30 in the Assembly room. Bring ideas!
Ben Forta/Adobe:
- Won some awards.
- Gain a lot of developers (2004->2008 250K->275K->400K->500K->750K+) with the fact that CF is claimed as dead at least once a year. Recently the arguments have changed from “too expensive” to “can’t find enough developers” which is a good thing for the language and product.
- Gartner Report – recommended to invest for at least the next 5 year period.
- Terry Ryan (@tpryan) was hired as a new evangelist.
